“Texas Chapter Educator of the Year 2007”

(The following was submitted to nominate Dale for Chapter Educator of the year and does a good job of demonstrating just why he received this recognition.)

I would like to nominate Dale & Kathy Compton for the honor of Texas Chapter Educator of the Year. Let me start by saying Dale was my mentor to CD of the chapter. As I was Dale’s ACD for two years we discussed what we needed to do to improve our chapter and participation in the chapter when I became the CD. We both agreed we needed to work on the fun and the education. Dale agreed to stay on my staff as the Chapter Educator.

In January of 2007 Dale began his job as Chapter Educator. Dale never loses focus on safety and safe riding. He is a constant reminder that safety makes motorcycling a lot more fun. Dale set some lofty goals for his first year as Chapter Educator. He wanted 100% participation in the REP and 0 accidents. We did not make the year accident free with just one accident. It was not a fatality accident and the rider is right back in the saddle. Dale achieved 92.86% of our regular participants into the REP from level 1 through level IV. There are 8 of these members that should be able to achieve Level IV by March of 2008. This is a tremendous achievement, considering there were only 2 level IV transfers this year and no other previous REP participation.

Dale and Kathy attend 95% of all chapter functions and attend 100% of the chapter gatherings. Dale presents at every chapter gathering, puts at least one article in every news letter, and adds an article to the Chapter Education Web page every month They are sometimes originals and sometimes copies but always valuable information. Check out the website at http://www.g2txroadrunner.org/Education/Educatio.htm

Every other month Dale and his assistant, Frank Boyd, hold a safety social (parking lot practice) for the G2 chapter. I have even had non GWRRA members ask about attending and we have had a few show up. They have all been really impressed with what can be accomplished in a few minutes of practicing. We have courses set up and work on riding proficiency, as well as round the bike discussions. We will then go on a lunch ride and practice our skills even further. You can actually see our group riding improving because of these sessions. We have decided next year, 2008, to make it a monthly event and already have them scheduled out 6 months.

Dale goes the extra mile for the chapter with his continual support above and beyond just safety. He leads rides, helps with event planning, is co-editor of the newsletter, and helps with the web page. He was the founder of the Greenville chapter and continues to support GWRRA all the way.

In summation I would like to tell you one of my favorite lines that Dale tells us all. “We can not make you a better motorcycle rider. All we can do is supply tools and information for you to use as you see fit.” I am proud to have Dale as my CE. He should receive some award and recognition for all of his efforts. Dale, a respected role model of the chapter, is very deserving of this prestigious award and recognition. Dale is MY “Chapter Educator of the Year 2007”.
