In the Beginning!

Well friends, here we go. On June 30, 2001 a handful of friends (new and old) got together for the first time, in what I am hoping will turn out to be a long and fun journey. At that very first organizational meeting we had a total of 17 present, with 15 members. And now that 15 has become 16, with one non-member joining.

On that Saturday evening, we all set about on the groundbreaking for what will be one of the newest chapters in the GWRRA  family. So far we have accomplished a lot, but we all know the hard work is just beginning and it will take all of us working as a group to see it through. As we are all volunteers, we need each one of us to step up to the challenge, and contribute what you can to get this thing flying. I have a T-shirt at home that reads "Soar like an Eagle, Ride a Wing", and that is my hope for this Chapter. We have the people to become one of the best in the state,  all we need to do is put it into action.

As of this writing, we are getting ready for our first scheduled monthly meeting, and only two days from filing the necessary paperwork, with the District Director, to obtain our Chapter. Now I am really getting excited, and a little nervous.

We have a had a couple of rides since that very first meeting, and as always we had a great time. Even though Carl D. did manage to find us some rain on one of them. But then in Texas, in July, is the rain all that bad. If you aren't familiar  with Mr. D's rides, the one thing that you can always count on is that Carl will come up with a good, and interesting ride, even if it is in the rain.

In closing, I will ask that each and every one of us roll up our sleeves and jump right in head first. There are a lot of us that are new at this, but don't let that stop you. If you need help, we can find you help. If you need some training, we have the pledge of the District Director to get whatever w need to get going. So come on in, the water is fine!!!

Till next time, ride same, have fun and keep the shiny side up !!

Dale and Kathy Compton,  Chapter Directors.
