Ron and Sandy Cheney

Sandy was born in LaJolla, California and I was born in Coshocton, Ohio.

Sandy’s family moved to Coshocton, Ohio in 1965 and I lived in the area my entire life.

After I got out of the Army in 1972 I went to an old friend’s house to ask the friend out on a date. She introduced me to Sandy we started dating. Both of us said we just wanted to have fun and not get into anything serious. We got married on November 9, 1972. I sure am glad we were not going to get serious. We have 2 children, Deanna and David. We have five grandchildren, Cameron, Casey, Calen, Cade, and Aiden.

I have worked for two different paper companies. I worked for St Regis in Coshocton, Ohio for 16 years. The St Regis mill shut down in 1983. Some of the mill equipment was purchased by Corrugated Services Inc and I just came along with the equipment to Forney, Texas in October of 1983. We have been here since.

Sandy has worked for various companies. Her last job was with an oil and gas firm in downtown Dallas. It is good to have her home full time.

We rode a 1971 650 Triumph Bonneville, that I purchased while stationed in Germany, until 1975. We played softball, bowled, played volleyball, went skiing on area lakes, while camping out. I also played music every weekend plus and Sandy never missed a show. We sold the bike because of lack of time and we had the small ones to think about.

When we moved to Quinlan, Texas I coached pee wee baseball, football, and basketball. We, also, spent many hours on the lake fishing and skiing.

After I finished my college degree in 2002 Sandy told me it would be nice if we could go for bike rides with Ed & Cindy. Not wanting to let her down I began looking for a Goldwing right away. I found Ol’ Red and bought the bike. We rode with Ed, Sandy’s brother, and Cindy and other people where I work for about a year. We then joined GWRRA, looked up the G2 Chapter on the internet and here we are now.

Sandy and I have discussed it many times: It is one of the best decisions we have ever made. We have been and seen places we never would have known even existed. We have met people and have a group of friends we would not change for anything. We have noticed that the international GWRRA family knows no strangers. As long as our health and physical abilities hold up, we will stay involved in the GWRRA Chapter activities.

Thanks to everyone in the GWRRA Family for making Sandy and I feel so welcome.
